Surf Coast Shire will trial extended opening hours for the Winchelsea Swimming Pool this year, until the end of March 2011.

Council made the decision for the trial at the January Council Meeting in response to a petition from community members. Extending the pool season is estimated to cost an additional $8,500. 

Surf Coast Shire mayor Councillor Dean Webster said the use of the pool over March will be assessed to determine the viability of extending the pool season in future years. "Council is certainly open to providing the service over March, but it has to be shown to be of benefit to the community for this trial to be successful" Councillor Webster said.
